The first computer at Queen Mary College

An extraordinary film has just emerged, of the installation of the first computer at Queen Mary College in the 1960s:

Two things struck me on watching it. First, the very different attitude to health and safety in those days. Second, the irony that this film shows up in the very last stages of the centralisation of IT support, so that the last link between computers and the space at the top of the maths building will be lost.

About Peter Cameron

I count all the things that need to be counted.
