Read this and weep

David Colquhoun has published some details of the case of Professor Stefan Grimm, a professor in the Department of Medicine at Imperial College.

He was sacked for not getting enough grants. Now he is dead.

At the link above you will find Grimm’s final email. It makes very saddening reading. Here is one of the milder sentences:

After all, how can you convince your Department head that you are working on something exciting if he not even attends the regular Departmental seminars?

    They don’t call it Imperial for nothing.

  2. To clarify (?): I am not sure whether he had actually been sacked or simply threatened with the axe.

    That the Imperial “official statement ” is accompanied by a photograph of an Imperial PR person grinning really tells you all you need to know about how seriously they are treating the situation.
